Judge Septimus J. Hanna

Septimus J. Hanna was a lawyer and judge who came to Christian Science in the late 1880s after a healing. He became one of the most important figures in the early movement, serving as editor of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel from 1892 to 1902.

Under Hanna's editorship, both publications grew significantly in circulation and influence. He was a careful and thorough editor who worked to ensure that the publications accurately represented the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy.

Hanna was also a gifted lecturer and teacher. He served on the Board of Lectureship and gave lectures throughout the United States and abroad. His lectures were known for their logical clarity and their ability to address the questions of inquirers and students alike.

He died in 1921, having served the Christian Science movement for more than thirty years. His writings remain an important resource for students of the early movement.
